Garage Rentals on Craigslist and Other Classified Sites - Pros and Cons of Using Them
The Property Finder lets you search for sale and for rent properties online. One of the many websites the Property Finder searches for you is Craigslist.org. Real estate sites, online marketplaces, and other property sites are search too and all at once.
When we think of the rentals posted online, we automatically think of homes and apartments for rent. You will find these when doing a Property Finder search, but you will also find garage and storage rentals. Renting a garage from someone you found online (whether or not you use the Property Finder) sounds nice, but it does have its pros and cons. What are some of them?
The Pros
Lots of choices. As stated above, it is easy to search for garage and storage rentals with the Property Finder. The Property Finder searches thousands of websites for you at once! This means you will get a lot of results and lots of results means lots of choices. Whether you are a looking for a large garage, small garage, garage for storage, or garage for auto repairs, you should be able to find it.
The garage you never had. Millions of Americans could benefit from having a garage, but they just don't have access to one. Rentals advertised on Craigslist and other similar sites give you the garage you never had. Most owners will let you know what you can or cannot do; you can store a car or other belongings long-term or use short-term rentals for do-it-yourself car repairs. If you don't have a covered building on your property for these purposes, renting may be your only option.
Cheap prices. Many of the property owners who have garages and other covered buildings advertised for rent online are homeowners. They aren't in the professional renting business, which should mean cheaper prices for you. If looking for long-term storage, compare the rental costs with that of a professional storage facility. If looking to do your car repairs, add the rental costs to your auto parts costs and then compare to a professional auto repair service. Either way, you’ll likely find yourself saving money.
The Cons
There are some risks. As previously stated, most of the posters who have a garage rental are homeowners. In most cases, they aren’t using the garage so they decide to rent it and make a little bit of money. You will likely have a verbal agreement, but not the formal contract you would with an established storage business. If you can't install your own padlock, know that the garage owner could enter and access your items at anytime. Although most are honest, the risk is always there.
While there are pros and cons to renting a garage from another property owner, you might think that the pros outweigh the cons. If you would like to find storage rentals or at least examine your options, use the link above to download your free Property Finder trial today.
