Avoid Moving Scams - Find a Good Moving Company with the Leads FinderAre you moving? Whether you are moving across the state or across town, you may be in need of assistance. If you are looking for a cheap moving company or cheap moving help, you might turn to Craigslist or the hundreds of other classified websites online (you can search them all with the Leads Finder). You can find moving truck rentals, moving companies, and even individuals looking to make a little bit of cash on the side by helping you move. However, it is also important to be on the lookout for moving scams.

Know that moving scams do exist. The first line of defense is to be well-aware. A common one of the moving scams that targets movers is theft. You hire what you believe is a legitimate moving company, but they are actually nothing more than criminals in disguise. After loaded into their truck, they up and disappear. If your stuff does arrive, it might have already been “picked” through.

Hire a local moving company because these companies make it easier for you to avoid moving scams. If moving within the state or same county, it is best to opt for a local moving company or hire a few guys to help. Many moving scams are focused on long distance moves. This is typically because there is more time to break open the door and steal items on long distance moves. If you opt for a moving company, make sure they are properly insured to prevent instances like these.

Hire a helper, not a moving company who basically just helps you. When you hire a full fledged moving company, they usually come with their own moving vans. They load your things, you watch, and then they drive off, leaving you hoping they do arrive at the destination. A good alternative is to rent a moving truck yourself. Then, hire an individual or a group to assist. They help you load your household belongings into the truck and then unload it. By driving the vehicle yourself, you ensure that you are in control at all times and less likely to fall victim to one of the moving scams.

Don't pay upfront to reduce your chances of becoming a moving scam victim. It is okay to pay a percentage of your fee upfront if dealing with a local company. But, a legitimate moving company should have no problem waiting until the work is done. After all, how often do we prepay for a service? A moving company that requires payment in full and upfront may be the sign of a moving scam. Can you guarantee that they will follow through and make the delivery?

As stated above, if you do want to find moving help (whether it be a moving truck rental, moving company, or just a group of people to help), you can search thousands of classified sites with the Leads Finder.
