So you want to catch up with technology and buy an HDTV. Of course you have lots of buying options, but you might consider turning to an online classified website. As you know, this is where users can buy and sell products. One of those products are HDTVs.  You will find mostly used HDTVs for sale on these websites, but you might find some new televisions as well.

As for buying, here is an HDTV buyer guide.

HDTV Buyer Guide Tip #1 - Read Reviews

Speaking from experience, some HD televisions aren't worth the money. Luckily, buying used does present you with a good opportunity.  When buying new, the HDTV itself is likely new on the market.  When I looked up our LCD TV, all I saw were “I love this HDTV; it is great.”  After our television took a dump, I went back to those same reviews.  Guess what?  A lot of them were updated with the same power failure we had.  Of course an HDTV is going to look amazing in your living room right out of the box.  When buying a used HDTV, it has likely been on the market a while.  This typically enables you to get the good and the bad reviews.

HDTV Buyer Guide Tip #2 - Ask About Repairs

This ties into the above problem I had with our own LCD TV. We had a local television repair guy willing to do the work for $300. Considering that the original cost of our HDTV was $1,500 it wasn't a bad deal.  The only downside is that it would take weeks (to get all the needed HDTV repair parts).  Since no guy wants to watch a 20 inch non-high def television in the middle of football season, we headed to Best Buy (and yes bought the warranty this time).  We ended up selling sold the older, repaired HDTV on Craigslist. Although we stated the TV underwent repairs, not everyone does.  In most cases, if repairs are made you can negotiate down a better deal.

HDTV Buyer Guide Tip #3 - Consider Size

If looking to buy a big screen HDTV, have a game plan in place for the pickup. Many times a seller just sells the HDTV; it’s your responsibility to load it into a car. A 47 inch big screen television can weight as much as 150 pounds! Get the basic information first; this includes sizes and estimated weight. Moreover, how far must you carry the television? Don't find out too late that the seller lives on the forth floor of an apartment building with a narrow stairway.  After an hour of struggling, your great deal might not seem so great.

Size, repairs, and reviews are all factors you want to take into consideration when buying an HDTV or really any product from the internet.
