This means you can turn around and give the gift card to someone else.  Rarely is the actual gift card written on, so you will need to forego the sleeve.  You can ask the store for a new one or just insert it in a Christmas card.

Use to Buy Gifts: If you don't want to take the risk of giving the gift of a hand-me-down card, go right ahead and start shopping. This is best when the certificate is for actual retail stores, like Wal-Mart. Do your gift shopping (remember you paid less than the face value so you got a great deal). When you hand a packaged present, your gift recipient will never know you bought it with a $10 gift card you only paid $5 for.
