Tips for Applying for Jobs Online with the JobFinder
Applying for jobs online has its pros and cons. For starters, it is quick and easy, especially when you use the JobFinder. However, you don’t get to make that in-person first impression like when you would hand off your application or resume to the manager. What does that mean? It means your fist impression is made during the online application process. To ensure all goes well, here are some helpful dos and don’ts for you.
DO follow the instructions provided. In almost all cases, you can use the JobFinder’s built-in reply to apply for jobs, but sometimes you will notice a huge button or link that says “Apply Here Only.” You better go right ahead and do it. If you send your resume via email, the hiring manager may not even see it. Luckily, all links in all job listings remain intact so click the link through the JobFinder and you will arrive at the online application site.
DON’T forget to attach your resume and cover letter when applying for jobs. When using the JobFinder, you can store an unlimited number of resumes and cover letter: do it. As for applying for jobs, be sure to attach both a resume and a matching cover letter. Just to be safe, do this first. You don’t want to go ahead and click send in your rush and then realize “oh shoot, I forgot to attach my resume.”
DO apply for many jobs, but only apply to each job once. Right now, there are millions of Americans looking for work, so there is a lot of competition. Hiring managers are overwhelmed with resumes and you will not get a call unless an interview is scheduled. If you don’t get the call, you don’t get the call. Never keep sending your resume hoping that maybe this time they will see you are the perfect candidate for the job. They will only see that you don’t know how to take a hint.
Note: Remember that you can apply for jobs directly through the JobFinder. To do so, perform your search as usual and your search results will appear in the top frame of the JobFinder. Select a job, right click, and select “Apply.” If the email field appears blank to the sender, close out the reply box and reread the job listing. You should see a link (which you can click on) that will guide you through the application process.
